FARENHEIT 1982

"In the corner of some foriegn feild, the gunner sleeps tonight..." Sings Roger Waters on Pink Floyd's "The Final Cut", and here we are twenty-two years later and it's the same story albeit differen't names. I strongly suggest giving the album another listen, replacing the Reagan/Thatcher/Haig references with Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld ("They can appear to themselves/ On closed circuit TV/ To make sure that they're real/ It's the only connection they feel"). When the album came out it was panned by critics as being a) in effect the first Roger Waters solo record, and b) far too political. In retrospect it's neither, and in my opinion a true classic. With the exception of "Not Now John" (we're not so afraid of the Japanese economy anymore), the record stands today as a testemant to wasted life, cheap political maneuvers, tyranical insanity, and hope....

"you can speak out loud about your doubts and fears
and what's more
no-one ever disapears
you never hear their standard issue kicking in your door
you can relax
on both sides of the tracks
and maniacs don't blow holes in bandsmen by remote control
and evryone has recourse to law
and no-one kills the children anymore"
