IS ANYTHING SACRED

Truth is the first casualty of war, and Tony Alva should know that. As far as objectivity goes, in modern foriegn policy, objectiveness is an impossibility. One could confuse obdurate behavior as objective, but it's still toeing the party line regardless of the price paid by average americans, in the form of their sons and daughters, wives, husbands, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers.
The price is too high. We're supposed to be evolving as a race. There must be a cure for war.

Happy 4th America!

Oh yeah, my folks say hi to your folks.

Comments:
Ah! I sense that we are approaching the real crux of what gaps exist in our view of this issue of the Iraq war. Let's address what we seem to agree on: We both don't like war. We need to call it a day in Iraq and let the locals sort out their own future. And as a stretch assumption, you would also agree that Saddam and Co. being gone is better than having him around no matter what happens next (remember, he put people in woodchippers).

OK, here's the deal. Hate war as much as anybody. Almost lost my dad to one, but unfortunately they are what happens sometimes. Like true justice, true peace is unobtainable in the same sense. It should be strived for at all costs, but it is never going to happen. I like John Lennon's record as much as you, but once a decision is made to wage one, it must be won at all costs. This is a simple military truth we have had to learn the hard way. The real big idealogical gap that lies here is that my hunch is that you beleive that if somehow the US were to pull out of every middle eastern intrest we have over there and say, "you guys do your thing, and we'll do ours...", that somehow that would satisfy these terrorist fucks. It is simply not true. They are culturally, and religiously adverse to free thought. They do not believe in the relative nature of things, nor do they foster any kind of free association that is intuitive to those peoples would have grown up in free, or semi-free societies. Their only belief is absolutism. This very blog would cost one of these guys their life if discovered by their mullahs. This country has never seen the level of zealotry that we are now facing, Nazi's included. These people are not evolving as part of the human race my friend. There is no apologizing, or rationalizing our cultural differences to any degree that would satisfy them and have them simply leave us alone no matter how guilty you think America is, or what hand we might of had in creating the mess in the middle east. It's not what they are about. These are the people who crashed planes into buildings Ted. No amount of negotiations, diplomacy, dialog, compensation, etc... would have detered them from doing it, and nothing other than war will keep them from doing it again. This is a very sad condition, but we must totally win the war we are now egaged in at all costs. This is not Vietnam, it's not Eastern Europe, or Japan. Those were all philosphical and political in nature. This is something totally different. This is a religous thing. This is the element that the communists always overlooked until the USSR got there asses kicked in Afganastan. A man with only a knife and a fear of Allah is more dangerous than soldier outfitted with the lastest technology who doesn't respect what drives his enemy. This kind of soldier doesn't get cold in the forrests of France and gives up. THEY WANT TO DIE. These are Col. Kurtz type soldiers and they must be defeated.

I believe all these truths are what has gotten lost in the hurbis of the types of debate we've been carrying on here (re: M. Moore, Iraqi contracts, G.W., etc...) As much as I enjoy indulging in these debates myself, the real issue is what I have written above. I really don't beleive I'm being the least bit paranoid about my fear of these terrorists one bit. I have studied their beliefs closely and we should all be in fear of what they are capable of. We can agree or disagree on the administration, the recent history, the timing of it all, but America must keep it's eye on the ball here, not get distracted by attempting to save countries from themselves, fight the war we need to fight, against the enemy we have identified, and win at all costs. As Americans we need to all get on board with this fact, and do our individual best to see that it happens this way. There is no winning the hearts and minds, there is no diplomacy that will cure our enemies hatred for us.

Have a happy fourth.

BTW... Have you tried the Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon/Wizard of Oz thing?
