IF YOU BELIEVE....
If you believe that corporations should run rampant and unchecked, then you are a republican.
If you believe that there is a place for religion in government, then you are a republican.
If you believe that tax cuts for the rich benefit the poor, you are a republican.
If you believe that scientific research should be curbed, you are a republican.
If you believe that the Bible is a factual source of information, you are a republican.
If you believe that legislation will stem the tide of homosexuality, then you are a republican.
If you believe that you are right, and everybody else is wrong, you are a republican.

The biggest problem with these axioms is that they suggest the converse to be true, which it is not. By this I mean they suggest that any person who considers himself or herself a Republican, believes all these things you list. An example of this kind of folly: I'm not rich. Did I benefit from a Republican proposed tax cut. You betcha. Would I vote for a president that would potentially give me another one. You bethca. Do I care that those who make more than I get bigger tax breaks, slightly. Do I care that these breaks benefit only those in my income bracket and higher? Ever so slightly, only because most low income brackets don't pay much Fed tax to begin with.
As you said in previous blog entries, you will vote for the candidate who represents you best. On the above-mentioned issue alone, that would mean that I would automatically be voting Rep this Nov. Further, by your axioms that would make me patently a Republican. Staying with the example given, aren't those who are enjoying tax breaks simply selecting a candidate that best represents them?
I just finished reading a figure on another blog that claims that some very high percentage of the anarchists who protested at the convention this week we going to cast their vote for Kerry. By your logic, does this mean that all Dem's are anarchists?
There are lunatics who align themselves with both parties and all the candidates. Some actually believe all the things you've listed. It's wrong to suggest that all Republicans/Democrats thoughts on these axioms are consistant amongst all the ranks.
You must be feeling groggy from the post op painkillers

This post was a poke at Arnold's speech, but I guess this slipped past you beacuase you haven't tuned in. You are right, and if you have read (why would you) Micael Moore's correspondance from the convention, you would see a peice on how most registered Repubiocans lean left on most of the issues, they just love a cowboy I guess.
This was a poke at Arnold's speech at the convention. You are however right on the money. See what's happenin' on Fred's blog with his list. That's what I'm pointing to, you could answer yes to all of Arnie's points and still be democrat. The whole thing is silly. If you check out (why would you) Michael Moore's commentary on the convention, you'd see a piece where he talks about how most republicans have leftist views on the major issues, they simply just love a cowboy.
For the people who continue to use Michael Moore’s movie as factual evidence in supporting their claims of superiority in democrat views, I’m sad to tell you that you are very narrow minded. Try to look in to the situation a little bit more thoroughly before you make ignorant statements. If our democrat presidential candidate can be more precise with their differences in, so can you. Michael Moore’s movie was that, a movie. Edited to fit a framed point of view that he has with president bush and the Republican Party. Prove your points with facts, instead of opinions. You will surely look more intelligent.
peace....Not war...get our men and women out of iraq.. we are in need of help here after katrina...its just going to be another vietnam......."advisors"...when will you learn!
To the above:
If that were true, then we would have made a unilateral invasion of Sudan.
Socialist mess like Europe? If you consider healthcare for everyone a social mess, then I'll happily be in a socialist mess. The US is the only world power that hasn't figured out healthcare.
I'd rather help the needy than give tax breaks to oil companies while they remain the most profitable businesses in history.

I work for Child Support Services and work hand in hand with the Department of Family and Children's Services. I see the people my tax dollors help. I see the mothers who have five kids by five fathers and want the governments help to raise them. I see the same women who can't afford groceries and need food stamps drive up in nicer cars than I have. I know I am tired of busting my butt to make a good life for my family while people who don't work and work the system live better. I think we can help the less fortunate, but there needs to be better limits. I think we should hold people accountable. We all have choices in life. Why should others benefit from bad choices? The Constitution promises the "pursuit of happiness", not "we'll tax the crap out of everyone so lazy crack heads can live a better life"
I didn't say: "If you think the welfare system is wonderful, you are a democrat"
I support a reform of welfare services, but I stand by the list I did provide.

In reference to "As you said in previous blog entries, you will vote for the candidate who represents you best."
would/should/could the "above-mentioned issue alone" (tax benefits) influence/dictate that you elect the party that would most benefit you financially to 'represent' you?

Wow. This really makes Republicans look like abd poeple. Which isn't true. It makes you look like a bad, disrespectful person.
What if someone said the same about democrats? That they believe they are right, and everyone else is wrong. That is an unfair statement and a complete opinion...just because you belong to the opposite party.
Im still not sure, but I need to know 4 my history class tomorrow its a big project i'm doing, but thanks 4 the info.
If you believe that corporations should run rampant and unchecked, then you are a republican.
-republicans broke up microsoft
If you believe that there is a place for religion in government, then you are a republican.
-the Bible is the most quoted/cited source in the US Constitution
If you believe that tax cuts for the rich benefit the poor, you are a republican.
-the rich are often your next door neighbors and nobody poor ever gave anyone a job
If you believe that scientific research should be curbed, you are a republican.
-Curbed for what reasons? The nazis doing experiments, yeah. Stem cells? I'd like an alternative, but for now its the best we have (as far as I know, I'm not a doctor.)
If you believe that the Bible is a factual source of information, you are a republican.
-a lot of FDR democrats believe this, as a Catholic republican, I do not.
If you believe that legislation will stem the tide of homosexuality, then you are a republican.
-Not a lot of republicans believe this either, but Obama's buddy over in Iran has figured out a way to completely eliminate homosexuality, maybe he'll take some tips.
If you believe that you are right, and everybody else is wrong, you are a republican.

Do you really want to teach your children something? Try this. . .
When Mother Earth is finally saturated with us Humans, and not enough food for us all, total chaos with prevail, we will all live like rats, and nothing else will matter . . . .

I can't believe this post is still getting traction. It's only four years old.
It does seem that I was right though.
It does seem that I was right though.
Even thought the religon in goverment thing was right, I think your list is a little imature. The last one, "If you think you are right, and everyone is wrong, you're a republican." was the immature comment, really. It is one thing saying you disagree with the Republican party, and another to just make fun of them, as if you were still in high school. Don't get me wrong, I'm a die-heart Democrate, I'm basically for everything: gay-marriage, pro-life, for scientific develompment, all that. It's just, when you agree with one side, there is no need to butch the other. The only way we can all live together with our diffrent veiws is to tolorate each other, show each other respect...
Sincerely,
Abbie
p.s- Yeah, I think Republicans are selfish, stuck-in-the-past, over-sized paycheck-ers too. But, come on, you have to be nice to them. (they're not that smart.) hahah jk...kinda.

Does being four years old somehow make it less legitimate? Abbie might not be the greatest speller but if she can convey a point there's no reason to dismiss her and jeer at the spelling errors.
