EVERYTHING GONNA BE ALRIGHT THIS MORNIN'

Muddy said that. Muddy knew what it was like to be down, to be a minority, to be feared and thusly repressed. We, the lefties, the perimiter, the metropolitans, the free-thinkers are in the minority today. The God and Guns crowd, the middle bit, the interior, the rural middle class are the majority.

'How about trying to understand why?' This is from Duncan's comment on my brother's blog. Why? Why do people believe homosexuality is immoral? Why do people think abortion is murder? Why do people believe conviction outweighs reason? Why does Bush do well with voters who have lower IQ's. Why did New York, remember us, the ones who were attacked, vote Kerry?

I don't know Duncan, please tell me....why?

This statement is interesting. Please explain the logic or source for this statement.

Stupid People Love Bush
New Study Shows Correlation Between
Decline Of IQ And Rise Of GOP
By Will Durst

"Stupid people love Bush" new study proves According to the prestigious Southern California think tank, The Gluton Group, stupid people prefer President George W Bush over Senator John Kerry by a 4-to-1 margin. As Chief Resident Dr. Louis Friend characterized the results of the research, "the less intelligent you are, the more you like Bush." This landmark study, conducted over a 5 month period, involved 2400 likely voters bridging all economic stratas in the 17 states generally considered up for grabs on November 2nd. Participants were tested for intelligence, then asked to fill out a 12 page series of questions involving the Presidential candidates with results released earlier this week.

The consensus: the higher the IQ, the less people trust Bush and respect the job his administration has done. The lower the IQ, the more people admire his steadfastness. "It was pretty much a slam dunk. There's no nice way to say this. Dumb people like him. They think his unwavering nature is a positive personality trait. They even venerate him for never admitting mistakes, even when he's wrong. On the other hand, smart people think he's a lying bully. I mean, c'mon, you have a deserter accusing a decorated veteran of treason. Who's going to buy that besides stupid people?"

Preliminary results:

IQ Above 140: Kerry 80%, Bush 20%.

120-140: Kerry 65%, Bush 35%.

100-120: Kerry 54%, Bush 46%.

80-100: Bush 54%, Kerry 46%.

60-80: Bush 60%, Kerry 15%, Dale Earnhardt Jr. 25%.

Apparently, Bush's good-evil, black-white philosophy resonates on an inverse relationship with higher education, whereas it became evident over the period of analysis that John Kerry's nuanced arguments are only understood by people who paid attention in any class above the 5th grade.

Doctor Friend elaborated: "It has to do with intellectual curiosity. Folks see Bush in front of a stream talking about the environment and they assume he's in favor of it, even though if you read his legislation, I'd be surprised to hear him endorse shade. This also explains why Bush gets away with pretending he doesn't know how the Senate works, allowing him to call Kerry a flip-flopper."

Friend released evidence that this type of disconnect exists across the board: education, foreign policy, the economy, post 9-11 security response and State Dinner entertainment choices. Also discovered was a direct correlation between the number of preset Country Western stations on car radios and Bush's approval rating. Dr. Friend attributes this phenomena to the simplicity inherent in the messages indigenous to both. Classical music listeners were preponderantly Kerry supporters, but surprisingly, on heavy metal, the two split down the middle.

Spotting a trend, Friend cautioned, "Because of the deterioration in public education, larger and larger segments of the population are creeping downward IQ-wise, cementing the hold Republicans have on the electorate." However, if the election were held today, Bush would hold a lead of 52-48 in the popular vote, but would be virtually tied in the Electoral College, which Bush supporters argue against because the word College angers them. When contacted, a Kerry spokesman just chuckled. No Bush spokesperson was made available for comment. It was also found that Ralph Nader supporters were the brightest of all political proponents tested, but Dr. Friend dismissed them as "too smart for their own good."

I'll go back to point I attempted to make in my very first blog response...

If all you want to do is incite and anger people, continue to call them idiots for what they believe or how they voted. You will have no problem achieving your goal. You're in good company with the Rush's and the Hannity's of the world. If you want to understand why people think the way they do, simply ask them and they will tell you. If you want to change people's minds than make a good case and argue it. America is a big country my friend. New York City is a great place, but it is only a small portion of it. There are bound to be differences in thought. The best way to win out over the religious crackpots on the issues you've detailed is to do it systematically and within the framework of the law and the constitution. I have every faith the constitution will win out every time. If not, someone will pay for it in 2008 surely.

I have learned quite a bit through this election process this past year. I dare say that points made on these blogs have even influenced the way I think about certain issues, even changed my mind completely in some cases. I heard you utter at some point in the not so distant past, “…things are just a lot more complicated then they initially seem”. You have never been more right about something. That is why time is better spent digging into issues (i.e. reading/writing blogs) vs. telling people they’re idiots because they’re Christians, voted for Bush, supported the Iraqi invasion, etc…

I know that much of what you’re lashing out at Jarvis et al is wrought with the emotion of your guy conceding defeat and that’s cool too. I just hope tomorrow you’ll get around to telling us what you think of that Coney Hatch and Budgie records you bought last week.

Your Friend,

TA

I didn't call anybody an idiot, well I probably called G.W. an idiot a number of times, but I never said anything like what your insinuating. I did refer to an article that makes the calim that Bush does well with people who have lower IQ's. That is not the same as saying anyone who voted for him is an idiot. I'm sure many, many, inteligent people voted for him. If anybody's an idiot it's me, because I spent last night watching the stupid TV, checking the score as it were, instead of listening to that Budgie record!

Technically Ted, in scientific terms albeit not legal ones, abortion is murder. Perhaps not exactly at the moment of conception, but very early on, the fetus carries on enough life processes to be considered living and therefore to take that life, many would consider it a homicide and in most cases not justifiable. I'll stand for the old "lesser of two evils" argument but lets call a spade a spade. That being said, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY? What possessed so many people yesterday to determine their vote based on so-called "moral issues" such as embryonic stem-cell research, abortion and gay marriage, while completely ignoring any of the countless moral issues of the day that actually matter? Why these referendums were on the ballot is a better question. Granted, I'm not going to fault any measure that gets the vote out but it's obvious why they were there. How can a person be so concerned with the rights of the unborn and yet oblivious, unconcerned and/or willing to accept the deaths of 1100 US soldiers and countless - or should I say UNCOUNTED - Iraqi civilians? How can a person be so concerned with the sanctity of marriage while the honor of the office of the president has been ransacked by this smirking LIAR with the IQ of a fence post who drags us into a war that makes no sense, wages another war against the environment(which he probably cares so little about because he's a goddamn end-timer) and decimates our economy? Everywhere else in the world, they make a concerted effort to make a really smart person their leader. How did we get this clown? TWICE!!! Who are these people that think it's more important to go to bat for a sickly, third-trimester fetus that will either kill it's host, or is destined for a brief, painful and not to mention costly existence and then most likely die a horrible death (thereby mooting the whole life begins at conception argument), than it is to protect the naive teenager down the block who mistakenly believed that he could trust that his government would not risk his life unneccessarily and now finds himself headed for a second (and ILLEGAL) tour of duty in Iraq? I don't understand these right to life jackasses. Haven't they noticed that we've had a republican president, congress, senate, and bench and guess what... Roe v. Wade still stands. He says he's with you, but he's not really with you now is he? I just don't get it. Go ahead and sue me for saying it, but you'd have to be stupid to have voted for Bush. I just can't think of a nice way to say it. Ted, I don't care if you have a stat or not to back up the statement about people with lesser IQs voting for Bush, it's painfully obvious to me. I'm no longer just mad with the "current administration," I am heartachingly disappointed in Americans. I'm so mad and sad and perplexed and yes, I feel a certain moral and intellectual superiority today because I didn't vote for Bush. But that and two bucks will get me on the subway... and it certainly won't pay my health insurance premium.

Don't hold back Clarkie, tell it like it is. I love the 'god damned end-timer' bit. It's clear to me now that we have to protect the fetus, so it can be born and killed properly with a gun.

Thanks for making me laugh Ted. I haven't laughed in 36 hours.
