HOLD THE PHONE CHUCK

From the official Pink Floyd website:

"It has been confirmed that Roger Waters will join Pink Floyd to perform at the Live8 concert in Hyde Park on 2nd July."

David Gilmour made the following statement:
“Like most people I want to do everything I can to persuade the G8 leaders to make huge commitments to the relief of poverty and increased aid to the third world. It’s crazy that America gives such a paltry percentage of its GNP to the starving nations. Any squabbles Roger and the band have had in the past are so petty in this context, and if re-forming for this concert will help focus attention then it’s got to be worthwhile.”

So it's confirmed; up is down, black is white, and dogs and cats are sleeping together.

Comments:
It's hard to believe. I barely believe it. I never, ever thought Waters would perform with Pink Floyd again, and anyone who's kept up with their back in forth in the press would probably agree. Roger said over and over that they shared absolutely no common ground, musical, political, or otherwise, but I guess things have changed. It's nice to see egos put aside for the chance to do some good, raise some money, and maybe move some of the back catalog (not that the Floyd has ever really had any problem with that).

I have heard that Rick Wright will not be performing, which means it's not really a Pink Floyd reunion. I don't know if this is true or not, but if it is it's a little disappointing. I wonder if they even called him?

Either way, the idea of Gilmour and Waters on stage together, for the first time in almost 25 years, is pretty remarkable. These guys have been apart longer than they were together, and things have certainly changed since "The Final Cut." We're all a little older, maybe a little wiser (maybe not), but if Roger and Dave can put aside their differences, anybody can.

Tear down the wall! Tear down the wall!

I heard the annoucement yesterday and was keeping silent to see how long it would be before you two guys got the word. I too hope they don't pull a Jimmy Page/Robert Plant on Rick Wright and not call him (Page and Plant did NOT call JPJ when they got back together a few years back, idiots). For me, I've just never figured out how people, strike that, musicians can get in a tiff so enormous that they can't be in the same room with each other after the passing of a decade. Short of screwing somebody elses wife (and even that can sometimes be overcome), I just can't imagine being unable to reestablish the common ground they once were on while creating such masterpieces. Hell, if Nigel and David could patch things up anybody can. I only wish there was some way to be at the show.

Let's hope the two of them get on well and are inspired to get out on the road again. If it happens, we WILL see them.

Incredible, isn't it? I read about it last week and couldn't believe my eyes. May be worth a trip to England for this. What do you think?

Well time's runnin' short on getting over to merry olde england for this show, and I very much doubt that it will spawn a tour or any colaborative effort, but if you got the time and cash to make it happen, there are some other decent acts to see on that bill, and, we hope, that it'll be helping unfortunate folks as well, but I'm not counting on that either.
As for calling up Rickey Wright, maybe they lost his number....or he's sailing in Greece..... maybe they did, and he'll be there.....naaaah.

I'm very stoked about Floyd, it will be strange to see a show with Reunited Pink Floyd playing on the same bill as a reunited Spice Girls.

I'm not sure but that could be a sign of the "end of days".

I REALLY hope they (Pink Floyd not the Spice Girls) end up patching things up and touring one last time...

The idea of a reformed Floyd on the road is certainly attractive. Something tells me it won't happen, though - Mason, Gilmour and co. haven't been on the road for over 10 years and I think they're pretty comfortable in their race cars/private planes/houseboat studios to actually pack their bags again.

Of course, I didn't think they'd ever play with Waters again either, so who knows. If they do hit the road, I'll quit my job and follow them around, selling grilled cheese sandwiches and funny brownies to survive. Get out the patchouli!
