Indeed, as crass as it seems, this is an excellent example of natural selection at work.
In this case, both deafness and the tendency to stray too close to dangerous places have been selected against.
Since she is "Miss" Deaf Teen, we can assume she has not reproduced, so her genetic contribution to the next generation is minimized.
Obviously, her family members carry some of her genes, and will be subject to their own selection pressures.
