5) Kiss - 'Won't Get Fooled Again', Mid Hudson Civic Center, 1984
4) The Replacements - 'Happy Birthday' (to Keith), Meadowlands, 1989
3) Microdot - 'Left of the Dial', Tedstock, 2005
2) Georgia Satellites - 'I Wanna Be Sedated', The Chance, 1988
1) Marillion - 'Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You, Tonight', The Ritz, 1987

Comments:
i'll second the microdot cover. that was excellent. sadly i did not witness any of the other covers.

So disappointed that the Red Kross show never makes any of your lists... The "Movin' on Up" Jeffersons cover was sublime

Holy shit Milk, now that's some recollection my man. That was a great cover.

The Satellites Ramones cover sent the place into a frenzy not often seen. That was a blast.

Aww, thanks guys.

My favorite cover moment was the Replacements playing "Rock'n'Roll All Night" to open at the old Ritz in New York in 1986.

I have so little recollection of that Red Kross show, but now that you mention it, it was a super duper show.

Not one of my favorite cover moments, but a couple of weeks ago I caught the last few songs from Spoon at the Prospect Park bandshell on a bike ride back from Manhattan. They played Rocks Off from the Stones. Quite cool.

I saw Zappa do "Stairway to Heaven" at Manley Field House in Syracuse, NY in 1980. Killed!

I would think 'Rocks Off' would be a tough nut to crack.

Zappa's 'Whipping Post (Floss)' is cool as well, and let's not forget Kablamachunk's 'Cats In the Cradle':

"Crashed my car
Can you dig?
On the way to a charity gig
Now I'm dead
(So what?)
I'd rather be alive instead!"

I know you guys were there but ...

My personal fav was Soul Asylum doing "One Tin Soldier" at the Uptown Lounge, Athens (1989? or 90). And/or Butthole Surfers doing "American Woman" at the Metroplex in Atlanta 1989 or 90 as well. My memory of the exact dates may be off a bit. Was 20 years ago, which is hard to believe.
